Human Resources Specialist

The Human Resources Specialist position will work closely with the VP, Human Resources Business Partner and the HR team to facilitate the activities necessary to meet the HR and company objectives. This newly created role will be a key member of the HR team and will interact with all levels of employees.  This role is focused on serving internal customers to ensure a positive employee experience and will provide exposure and opportunity to all facets of HR. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for helping to ensure the smooth operation of the Skyword office on a daily basis. Provides administrative support to the HR team, administers the total rewards efforts, supports Skyword team member experience, and assists in all facilities matters as needed. This includes, but is not limited to:


Total Rewards and Team Member Experience

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information

  • Ensure the accuracy of all HRIS/payroll system new hires, changes, and terminations

  • Assists with new-hire orientations

  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data

  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.

  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility

  • Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes

  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries

  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA

  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities

  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment

  • Manages the annual open enrollment process

  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.

  • liaise with the broker, coordinate open enrollment, triage questions from employees, and ensure accurate billing

  • Performs compensation benchmarking to ensure positions are compensated accurately

  • Assist in salary and bonus review process, including educating managers on the process and aiding when needed

  • Administers employee awards and recognition programs



  • Ordering of office supplies

  • Manages catering requests

  • Liaison to building management

  • Manages mail and delivery distribution

  • Liaison to facilities vendors

  • Manages the Skyword office space on a day-to-day basis


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite applications.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems


Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required

  • At least one year of human resources experience required

  • SHRM-CP a plus


Working Conditions

The HR Specialist will work in Skyword’s Boston office during regular business hours. Work outside of normal business hours may be required from time to time.
